Englobe Corp. is a national leader in environmental, geotechnical, pavement and materials engineering and building science (building envelope/roofing) services; we perform investigations, inspection, testing, analyses, assessments, supervision and monitoring of work. Providing services for over 55 years, since 1961, Englobe operates in more than 55 offices across Canada and has a current full-time staff of over 1,600 employees nationwide, which include Professional Engineers, Professional Geologists, environmental scientists, geoscientists, technicians, technologists, laboratory staff and administrative support staff. Michael MacKay, M.Eng., P.Eng., is Vice-President – Expertise, Pavement and Geotechnical Engineering. Mike has over 41 years’ experience in geotechnical, pavement and construction materials engineering, inspection and testing at airport facilities throughout Ontario, across Canada and internationally.

The Englobe pavement engineering team developed and implemented the MicroPAVER Pavement Management System currently used at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority’s Toronto – Pearson International Airport (TPIA) and has completed all of the associated pavement condition survey updates and reporting for this system since its implementation in 2002. Our current assignment continues through to the end of the 2018 and includes pavement condition inspections and MicroPAVER database updating. Englobe also developed the Bridge Management System at TPIA. Specialized field testing equipment includes a Dynatest 8081 High-Capacity Falling Weight Deflectometer which is used for pavement structural condition evaluation, including ACN/PCN determinations for airside pavements. Englobe also has a unique Multi-Function Vehicle that is equipped with a non-contact digital laser Profilometer, a laser crack measuring system (LCMS), GPS, video and still cameras and all the ancillary computer hardware needed to perform pavement condition and asset management surveys. The Englobe GTA main laboratory is fully-certified by the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) for testing of soils, rock, aggregates, concrete and asphalt materials.

Englobe has most recently completed pavement evaluations and design and rehabilitation recommendations for airside and groundside pavements at Toronto Pearson International Airport Runway 05-23, Muskoka Airport, Gore Bay-Manitoulin Airport, Kapuskasing Airport, Collingwood Airport, and Region of Waterloo International Airport. Englobe provides airfield pavement evaluation, pavement design and quality control materials testing services as part of an Airfield Engineering Consulting Services Standing Offer with Deference Construction Canada at various airfield locations across Canada. We recently completed materials testing for Hangar 7 and Main Apron pavement surfaces at 3rd Wing Bagotville, QC as part of this standing offer agreement, and are currently providing materials testing services at Ottawa MacDonald Cartier International Airport for the Taxiway Charlie and Bravo Reconstruction and Runway 25 Simplified Short Approach Lighting System. Other significant airport pavement evaluation projects include the new runway and parallel taxiway at Calgary International Airport, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, Thompson (MB) Airport, Thunder Bay International Airport, Ottawa McDonald-Cartier International Airport, as well as numerous Department of National Defence airfields across Canada. Englobe’s office in Boucherville (QC) also offers state-of-the art airport pavement engineering and pavement management systems implementation and ongoing technical support for the Aéroports de Montréal facilities at Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport and Mirabel Airport and other airports across Quebec, including most recently Kuujjuaq Airport in northern Quebec.
