MISSION STATEMENT
AMCO, a strong provincial organization committed to the sustainability of airports nationally, monitors and communicates developments within the airport industry; lobbies and takes effective action as required; provides networking opportunities and training to airports of various sizes, ownership, organizational structures and economic health, and to businesses and other interested parties that work to enhance airport operations and sustainability, at fair market value.
BACKGROUND
As the senior advocate of airport owner and operator organizations in Canada, AMCO has evolved into a strong provincial organization committed to the sustainability of airports nationally. Incorporated on October 18, 1985, AMCO’s aims are: to represent the interests of the owners and/or operators of airports in the province of Ontario whose development and operation are not under the direct control of the federal or provincial governments; and, to promote the safe and efficient operation of those airports.
OBJECTIVES
· To represent airport owners and operators in all facets of aviation related to the maintenance, operation, management, regulation and funding of airports;
· To foster an appreciation of the responsibilities and authorities of the owner/operator, the airport user, federal and provincial agencies, and other aviation organizations;
· To monitor and make representation in regards to airport regulations put forward by the federal government;
· To monitor and make representation in regards to plans and progress of the federal and provincial governments;
· To promote networking for the organization, administration, staffing, maintenance and operation of airports;
· To promote aviation safety on the part of both the airport operator and the airport user;
· To promote environmental compatibility between the activities on the airport and on lands abutting the airport;
· To investigate and reply to specific issues raised by the general public, aviation organizations, government agencies or others;
· To promote better understanding and harmony between airports and communities;
· To investigate and prepare reports on specific issues of interest, such as these and other topics, as required: hours of operation; responsibility for runway condition reporting; airport user fees; land and building leases; requirement for mobile maintenance equipment; requirement for fire fighting equipment; and, staffing requirements; and,
· To organize airport maintenance seminars for the purpose of disseminating information and exchanging opinions, on these and other topics, as required: methods of gauging and reporting the condition of runways; use of mobile maintenance equipment; use of fire fighting equipment; snow/ice removal or control on aircraft operating areas; crack filling and other runway repairs; surface and sub-surface drainage; runway lighting systems; runway markings and markers; and, quality control of aviation fuel. |
